Autumn in Yosemite is one of the best times to visit. The crowds start to fade away as school starts. The weather remains comfortable with warm days, cool mornings and pleasant evenings. Hiking becomes easier with more moderate temperatures.

Fall Activities and Tourist Attractions
There are so many areas of Yosemite National Park to explore in the Fall, you’ll want to return often.
-
Visit the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias
The Mariposa Grove is the largest of the three groves of sequoias in Yosemite. Among the over 500 trees, you will find The Grizzly Giant, which is 2700 years old, making it the oldest giant sequoia in Yosemite National Park. Take a 1 hour narrative open tram tour of the Giants. The Mariposa Grove Road closes for the season in late fall. However, you can park at the south gate entrance and hike up to the grove, approximately 2 miles.
-
Play a Round of Golf at the Wawona Golf Course
One of the oldest golf courses in California is right here in Wawona. The course stays open until around November 1 when they close for the season. But even after the pro shop has closed and weather permits, you can swing your club and walk the course at no charge. Carts are not available after closure. Enjoy this 9 hole, par 35 (18 hole, par 70 second round) course with our locals and also the deer, fox and squirrels as your gallery. Until closing, reservations for tee times are required.
-
Enjoy one of Six Wawona Day Hikes
There are six different day hikes ranging from easy to strenuous here in Wawona. Trails are not far from any of our cabins. Please stop by our front desk to pick up a map and descriptions of hikes and then take off to enjoy our local area. Always be aware of your surroundings and bring water for your hike.
-
Fly Fishing Season
For the fly fishermen enthusiasts, September through December is peak season for trout fishing, especially the brown trout that flourish in the lower Merced River. An easy place to get started is Tenaya Lake up Tioga Pass Road (weather permitting, usually closes mid October-November).
White Wolf Lodge Dining
After a day of exploring Tuolumne Meadows and Tenaya Lake, stop by White Wolf Lodge for a family style dinner. Reservations must be made in order to enjoy the great experience. If you get to White Wolf early enough, you can hike the 4.2 mile round trip to Lukens Lake and then return to the lodge for dinner.
